About

Blk Girls Green House is a plant and specialty home goods shop, a community space, and what we like to call an absolute vibe co-founded by Kalkidan(Kalu) Gebreyohannes-Royster.

Grown out of a love for plants, interiors, and bringing joy to living spaces, BGGH also works to extend that joy to the larger community. BGGH is committed to collaborating with fellow Black-owned small businesses, artists, and makers to inspire conscious, local shopping and gathering. The flagship location, situated in West Oakland stands as a reflection of Black joy & culture, which can be seen, felt and heard from the moment you walk through the doors.

It can be seen in the vintage photos of Kalu’s mother and grandmother. It can be felt in the artwork that adorns the walls. It can be heard through their always-on-point playlist. It can be tasted in the artisanal coffee, tea, & spritzers offered by Blk Bean Cafe, that anchors the shop.

Since opening its doors in August 2020, Blk Girls Green House has been featured in Forbes, Essence, Domino, and Vogue Business to name a few. BGGH is proud to have opened our doors for artists Masego, Rexx Life Raj, Mara Hruby, Jane Hancock, and more, in our Grooves from the Greenhouse concert series.

In addition to the brick-and-mortar operation, Blk Girls Green House offers plant design, installation and maintenance services which include both retail and corporate clientele.

Whenever you’re in Oakland, we hope that you join us and find something you love, whether it’s a plant, a gift, a cup of coffee with a friend, or to just catch a vibe.

-It’s a beautiful time to GROW.
